This
portion of the tutorial list hardware playback devices that "read"
DAISY books.
We commonly use three
basic hardware playback devices that provide access to DAISY talking
books. Each resembles a common CD-Player and is operated in much
the same manner. Complete instructions for using these devices
are available in the training manuals and step-by-step instructions
available for your perusal.
We refer to the Victor
Reader Vibe (above) as the LD or Dyslexic unit. It most
resembles a common CD player (and does also play regular compact
disks) and is designed for students with the most common print
impairments. The New Jersey Unit of Recordings for the Blind and
Dyslexic provides a .pdf
overlay to assist students in learning to use the Vibe.
We refer to the Telex Scholar (above) as the
low-vision playback unit due to its controls being more tactile
by design. The New Jersey Unit of Recordings for the Blind and
Dyslexic provides a tutorial
on using this unit.
We refer to the Victor
Reader Classic+ (above) as the blind playback unit due
to its fully tactile design. The New Jersey Unit of Recordings
for the Blind and Dyslexic provides a comprehensive on-line
instructional manual for this unit.
