Introduction to the Reader's Guide
Each section of the Reader's Guide contains links to:
- the paragraph
headings in H.R. Mackintosh and J.S. Stewart's English translation of
Friedrich Schleiermacher's Christian Faith, 2nd ed. (1830-1831),
and
- the corresponding section in George Cross's The Theology of
Schleiermacher: A Condensed Presentation of His Chief Work, "The Christian
Faith" (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1911), which is in the
public domain and is here slightly modified in places from the version
posted online.
For the other parts of Cross's
book, see the Preface, the
Historical Introduction,
the Estimate of Schleiermacher's
influence, and the Reference
Works.
- Cross's book is not the definitive work on Christian Faith,
and it certainly was not the last word. But it is in the public domain.
This, it is presented here with the expectation that it should provoke
discussion and response. Send concerns and comments to the contact email
address.
