Tillich's Endorsements of the Books of Others
Kevin Courtright, 2018
For Barth's Protestant Theology in the Nineteenth Century, Tillich referred to the USA when he wrote: "This is my favorite among Barth's books. It shows clearly how inadequate is the image of Karl Barth in this country, how much greater he is than the 'Barthians' have made him appear. It evaluates with fairness and appreciation those men against whose theological influences Barth has fought all his life. To see this book in an English translation is a real joy to me."
For Helmut Thielicke's Theological Ethics, Tillich wrote: "A standard in ethical theology."
For Existence, edited by his friend Rollo May with others, Tillich wrote: "This book opens up a new dimension for psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. It is the dimension of the ultimate question, the question of man's nature and his place within the whole of reality."
