Mimir Sponsors & Attribution

The Mimir design and development project has been supported over several years by three generous external sponsors (NASA, NSF, and the W. M. Keck Foundation) and by continuing internal support from Boston University and Lowell Observatory. Details concerning the external sponsorship may be found below:

Attribution

All scientific publications using Mimir data MUST contain the following attribution line to recognize Mimir's external and internal sponsors:

"This research was conducted in part using the Mimir instrument, jointly developed at Boston University and Lowell Observatory and supported by NASA, NSF, and the W.M. Keck Foundation."

The fundamental Mimir instrument paper to reference is:

"Mimir: A Near-Infrared Wide-Field Imager, Spectrometer, and Polarimeter," Clemens, D. P., Sarcia, D., Grabau, A., Tollestrup, E. V., Buie, M. W., Dunham, E., & Taylor, B., PASP, 119, 1385-1402 (2007).

Software:

Users of the Mimir Software Packages should also recognize the sponsor, as follows:

"Analysis software for Mimir data was developed under NSF grants AST 06-07500 and 09-07790 to Boston University."

NASA

NASA supported Mimir design and development via two grants to Lowell Observatory from the Major Planetary Instrumentation Program:

  1. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph,'' Buie, M. W. (PI), Clemens, D. P. (Co-I/BU-PI), Dunham, E. W. (Co-I), Deutsch, L. K. (Co-I), Spencer, J. R. (Co-I), Yelle, R. V. (Collab.), Grundy, W. (Collab.), Stansberry, J. (Collab.), Young. L. (Collab.), & Janes, K. (Collab.), 5/99 - 4/00, $184,576.
  2. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph,'' Buie, M. W. (PI), Clemens, D. P. (Co-I/BU-PI), Dunham, E. W. (Co-I), Deutsch, L. K. (Co-I), Spencer, J. R. (Co-I), Yelle, R. V. (Collab.), Grundy, W. (Collab.), Stansberry, J. (Collab.), Young. L. (Collab.), & Janes, K. (Collab.), 5/00 - 12/04, $380,800.

NSF

The National Science Foundation supported Mimir design and development via one grant and three supplements from the Astronomical Technology and Instrumentation (ATI) Program:

  1. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph - II. Imaging,'' Clemens, D. P. (PI), 6/00 - 5/02, $307,959.
  2. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph - II. Imaging: REU Supplement,'' Clemens, D. P. (PI), 5/01 - 4/02, $6,000.
  3. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph - II. Imaging: Supplement #2,'' Clemens, D. P. (PI), 5/01 - 4/02, $29,779.
  4. "Mimir: Multi-function Infrared Imaging Spectrograph - II. Imaging: Supplement #3,'' Clemens, D. P. (PI), 11/02 - 11/03, $61,421.

W.M. Keck Foundation

The W.M. Keck Foundation supported enhanced Mimir development via a major gift to Boston University:

  1. "Development of the Mimir Wide-Field Imaging Spectrometer and Polarimeter and a Pilot Magnetic Field Survey of the Galaxy,'' Clemens, D. P. (PI), 7/01-12/03,
    $500,000.
