Standing Committees

• Presidential Committee on Space Planning and Capital Expenditures (SPACE)
  • Co-Chair Operations Sub Committee
  Review requests for space changes, renovations, additional space allocations.
  

• Environmental Oversight Panel
  Presidential-level committee meets annually to review environmental health and safety policies, incidents, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Environmental Health and Safety Management Team, Chair
  Recommend policies for environmental and safety areas; review incidents and exposures, make budgetary recommendations to administration. See Boston University Environmental Management Structure.
  

• Undergraduate Academic Council, Chair 
  Associate and assistant deans of the eleven undergraduate colleges in the University. Meet twice per semester to review common issues in the undergraduate experience.
  

• Graduate School Academic Council, interim Chair
  Associate and assistant deans of the graduate and professional schools. Meet 1-2 times per semester to consider issues of common interest.
  

• Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  Ex-officio member (non-voting); represent the Institutional Official.
  Committee meets monthly during the academic year to consider laboratory animal research proposals and matters of policy in laboratory animal care and use.
  

• Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching Selection Committee
  Administration member. Work with committee of previous award winners and outstanding students to select winners of the University's most prestigious teaching awards.
  

• Boston University Council  (Alternate)
  Meets twice each semester to consider matters of interest to more than one School or College
  

• Radiation Safety Committee
  Meets quarterly to review license applications, policies, inspections and incidents regarding radiation protection.
  

• Laser Safety Committee
  Meets quarterly to review and oversee the Charles River Campus laser safety program.
  

• Emergency Preparedness Working Group
  Meets occasionally to review and update the campus Emergency Response Plan.
  

• Emergency Response Team
  Called together in emergency situations; establishes communications; coordinates responses.
  

• Religious Life Council
  Advisory to University Chaplain. Meets monthly to review charters of student religious groups and issues of campus religious life.
  

• University Accessibility Group
  Meets periodically to approve initiatives to remove barriers to handicapped persons around the campus. Collectively manage modest budget for modifications.
  

• Humphrey Fellowship Advisory Board, Chair
  Meets occasionally to review the Boston University Humphrey Fellowship Program, particularly concerning placement of fellows in local professional affiliations.
  

• Advisory Board - Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future
  Meets once or twice yearly to review agenda for Center-sponsored conferences and visiting faculty.
  

• Barnes and Noble @ Boston University Advisory Committee
  Faculty, student and administration representation to improve bookstore services in course books and general merchandise.

• Council on Faculty Diversity and Inclusion
  Working to improve diversity and equality  among the faculty.
  
  Ad Hoc Committees
  

• 2004-5 Task Force on Recycling and the Campus Environment, Chair
  Committee of administrators, faculty and students reviewed University's recycling operations and made recommendations regarding improvements in both recycling and overall sustainable operations.
  

• Task Force on Violence and Harassment
  Ad hoc task force to make recommendations to improve personal safety on campus.
  

• Search committee for Women's Crew Coach (1996)
  

• Search committee for Director, Student Activities Office (1998)
  

• SEVIS Working Group
  Meets periodically to review University's progress in compliance with new regulations and reporting mechanism for international students and exchange visitors.
