Generic SOP for Universal Testing Machine Instron 5566A
Sample requirements:
- Prepare your samples according to the test requirements.
- Different test has diffrent requirements on sample demension and fixture.
Preparation:
- Check the power switch of instron and printer
- Check the status of computer, log in as administrator.
- Check the load cell cable is connected and in the proper load range as you need.
- Prepare fixture for your specimens.
Testing:
- Run BlueHill 3 from computer.
- Load your testing method and choose testing filename, save to your own folder. Each group pf specimens can be included in one data file.
- Input speciment information if needed.
- Mount your specimens in the proper fixture.
- Align the load cell with your specimens. Secure the fixture.
- IMPORTANT! Set the extension reset before run the test or set the frame safety sensors for upper and lower limit. Mistake in this step will casue servere damage!!
- For testing of load to failure, install proper protection around the fixture and wear safety googoles for yourself.
- Click "start" to test.
- Collect finished specimens and save for further fractograph analysis.
- Save the results after testing one group specimens. Do not mix different groups of specimens in one data file.
Change load cells:
- Unscrew the three bolts with Allen wrench.
- Unplug the cable conector.
- Find the empty case with the same labelled range as current load cell from cabinet. Leave it open on bentch.
- Carefully remove the load cell from crosshead and put into the case. Lock the case and put it back to cabinet.
- Find the case with load cell you need. Open the case and take out of the load cell.
- Mount the load cell on crooshead with bolts. Connect the cable
- Warning: You must return load cell back to case when using 10 N or 100 N load cell.
Finish:
- Switch off the power of Instron. You may leave it on and we do not see any harm by doing so.
- Clean the debris.
- Sign off logbook.
