How to Submit and Track
A Manuscript
0. Establish a USERID and Password on the EES System
Go to http://www205.ees.elsevier.com/monec/
Choose the Register Tab at the top of the page
Complete the Registration Page Information. Select a USERNAME that is easy for you to remember; your password will be sent to you automatically at the email address that you specified.
You can now use the system: Choose the Login Tab at the top of the page, login as an author, and enter your UESERNAME/PASSWORD.
The author main menu lets you submit manuscripts and track them (see below)
You can change the details of your registration information, for example if you change email addresses or employment.
Using the author main
menu
1. Submissions and Resubmissions
Two key parts of the author main menu are “new
submissions and resubmissions”
New Submissions
There are four categories under
new submissions
Submit New Manuscript: to submit a new manuscript, you will need to provide a manuscript and a
submission letter in one of a number formats (most submissions involve a PDF document supplied by the
author, but other options include Word,
Incomplete Submissions: If you do not enter all of the relevant information in the submission process, your
manuscript will stay here. The JME does not regularly check to see if there are incomplete submissions, so that it can stay there a along time!
Submissions Waiting for Author's Approval: After you submit your manuscript,
there is a waiting period while a PDF file is built for JME use by the EES system.
After this PDF is created, you must approve it before the manuscript is sent to the
journal office for assignment to an editor.
Submissions Being Processed: the manuscript is in the Journal Office, in the process of being transmitted to an editor. Manuscripts stay in this state until a submission fee is received. After your submission is formally initiated, you will receive an email entitled “Author Notice of Manuscript Number”
Resubmissions
There are five categories under resubmissions.
Submissions needing revision: to resubmit a manuscript, select this tab and then choose
resubmit revision
Incomplete Submissions Being Revised: this is same as with initial submissions
Revisions Waiting for Author's Approval : this is the same as with initial submissions
Revisions Being Processed: this is the same as with initial submissions
Declined Revisions: the JME does not use this category
Very important: with a resubmission, authors sometimes want to submit information for
the referee(s). DO NOT include this is part of your letter to the editor. Instead,
attach it at the back of the manuscript. If you follow this procedure, then the information
will be available to both the editor and to the referee. If you do not, but make it part of
your letter
to the editor, then it will NOT be available to the
referee.
2. Tracking your manuscript
By clicking on an appropriate category (Submissions being processed or Revisions being processed), you can track the progress of your submission using the EES system using the manuscript number. There are the following steps in the process.
With Editor: The manuscript has been sent to an editor for distribution to an associate editor or to a referee.
Under Review: The manuscript has been sent to a reviewer.
Required Reviews Completed: the referee has completed the review of the manuscript and a notification has automatically been sent to the editor handling the paper.
Decision in Progress: the editor has made a decision and the manuscript decision is being processed in the journal office.
