Information and Tips for Authors
The Journal of Monetary Economics welcomes
manuscript submissions on all topics related to macroeconomics.
All submitted manuscripts (new and revised) require
a submission fee. The last submission fee will be returned for accepted
manuscripts.
Manuscript length should not exceed 50 pages
including figures and tables.
Manuscript format:
- 12 point type double-spaced, a text width
of 6.5 inches and a text length of 8.5 inches.
- footnotes should be used, not endnotes.
- footnotes and references may be
single-spaced.
- figures and tables should be on separate
pages at the the end of the manuscript and notes to the tables should
make the table self-explanatory.
- figures and tables should be number
consecutively using Arabic numbers.
Refer to the Guide
for Authors
for further details on style and format of manuscripts.
All manuscripts must be
submitted through Elsevier's online submission system or EES. A complete
Tutorial for Authors can accessed from the
JME/EES Homepage.
Tips on Submitting and Tracking Manuscripts
- After logging in as an Author you will taken
to the Author Main Menu which allows you to submit manuscripts and
track their progress through the system.
- There are four categories under New
Submissions.
- Submit New Manuscript: To
submit a new manuscript you will need to provide a manuscript and a
submission letter in one of a number acceptable formats (most
submissions involve a PDF document supplied by the author, but other
available options include Word or Tex).
- Incomplete Submissions: If
you do not enter all of the relevant information in the submission
process, your manuscript will show up in this category. The
Editors do not regularly check to see if there are incomplete
manuscripts so it is up to the authors to make sure they have completed
the submission process correctly.
- Submissions Waiting for Author
Approval: After you have successfully completed supplying the
information on your manuscript
the system must build a PDF file for JME.
This may sometimes take a while but you do not have to wait. You
may log-out and come back to the system later. After the PDF is
created you must approve it before the manuscript will be submitted to
the Journal office.
- Submissions Being Processed:
Manuscripts in this category have
been received by the Journal office and are being processed. (See
Tracking your manuscript below.) Once the fee is
received, you will receive an email notifying you that your manuscript
has been assigned a manuscript number and is being forwarded to an
editor for handling.
- There are five categories under Revisions.
- Submissions Needing Revision:
This category represents papers for
which revisions have been requested. Select this category to
submit a revised manuscript.
- Incomplete Submissions Needing
Revision, Revisions Waiting for Author Approval
and Revisions Being Processed:
Correspond to the similar categories under New Submission.
- Declined Revisions:
The JME does not use this
category.
- Very Important:
With a resubmission, authors sometimes want to submit information for
the referee. DO NOT INCLUDE THIS WITH YOUR LETTER TO THE EDITOR.
Instead, attach this information at the back of the manuscript. If
you follow this procedure both the editor and the referee will have
access to your comments. If you do not do it this way, then your
comments will not be seen by the referee.
- On resubmissions, the Journal will endeavor to
use the same editor and referee assigned to the original manuscript.
- Tracking your manuscript. There are
several status indicators that will tell you where your manuscript is in the
editorial process.
- Submitted to Journal:
Your manuscript has be submitted and the Journal office is waiting on
the receipt of the submission fee.
- With Editor:
This means that the manuscript is with an editor and it is being
evaluated for the assignment of a referee.
- Under Review:
This indicates that the manuscript is with a referee and the editor is
waiting for a report.
- Required Reviews Complete:
A referee report has been received and the editor is in the process of
making a decision.
- Decision in Process:
The editor has made a decision and a notification is being prepared.
- Please do not call the
Journal office for further details regarding the status of your
manuscript. The office has no more information than is reported to
you by the JME/EES system. Calling merely delays the processing of
papers by the office.
