Domenic mounting filter box to optical bench with spring tie-downs to kinematic mounts
Marc Buie holding model collimator in place. The collimator mounts directly to the filter box and is registered to the bulkheads via a 3 point kinematic ring.
Domenic attaching the kinematic ring to the cold bulkhead
Kinematic ring detail. There are two hard mounted ball bearings, located 120 degrees apart, and one spring mounted ball bearing located at the top (north). These serve to locate the optical axis of the instrument, through the collimator, while allowing motion along the optical axis as the instrument cools (or warms).
