Instructions for moving files from SRT computer to
your account on another machine using FTP
- On the SRT computer's desktop, locate the icon in the lower left that
is labelled "SSH Secure File Transfer"
- Double-click that icon to launch the SSH tool
- In the upper left of that tool's window, just under the top row of
buttons, is a button labelled "Quick Connect"
- Single-click on that button
- A window pops up and requests information from you:
- "Hostname" is the name of the computer you wish to connect
to (e.g, "astro.bu.edu", or "acs.bu.edu")
- "Username" is your user name on that computer
- After filling in those two windows, hit <CR> or click "OK"
- Another window *may* pop up that asks about "Host Indentification"
- if it does, click its "Yes" button
- A window will pop up asking for your password on the computer
you are connecting to
- After this login dialog, the SSH tool will fill with side-by-side
lists of files. The left hand side shows files on the SRT computer;
the RHS shows files on the remote computer
- Use regular file navagation methods, including the up arrow button,
to navagate to the necessary directories on the SRT and the remote computer
- Select files on the SRT computer you wish to move, using the mouse,
and either drag them across to the RHS, -or- do right click, select
"copy" and then reposition the cursor onto the RHS, do a right
click and select "paste" to move the files
- Verify that the files you want have appeared in the RHS file list
- Close the SSH window - if it tells you it is still connected and asks
if it should be closed, click "yes"
