Out and Beyond Theatre Company:
"The Beggar's Stone"

The Lie: "Take and keep the stone and you will
have power", hissed the theif's voice. And the boy, Fist, believed him.
The Life Half Lived: But a clenched hand around a
stone can receive nothing. Suspicion, fear, and misery taint Fist's life until one day. .
.
The Chance: Fist meets Friend, who is kind and
strangely familiar. He comes to know Lord Giving and his mighty horse, Spirit Wind, who
runs faster than any boy could ever imagine. And Fist learns to let go, to trust, and to
receive . . . Freedom!
This delightful allegory, set in medieval times, has much to teach
us all, both young and old, about what it means to believe and trust God. It is a reminder
that we are all valued and precious to God, that we can choose who to listen to, and
that the saying "By dying to self we can live in freedom" can be just as true
for us today as it is for the characters in this story.
The Beggar's Stone is designed as a touring performance for Primary
Schools and churches. It provides great content for chapel services and religious
education programs. The Beggar's Stone is also well suited for family oriented worship
services and "invite a guest" services.
Dramatic Solutions also offers The Beggars
Stone in conjunction with a performance by Rivet n Tuft "Cultured"
Clowns on the one program in a concert format. This provides your church or school with
the opportunity to:
A moving story that will create a sense of wonder and a feeling of
community among those in the audience.
Space: ideally 6m by 6m; setup time: 65 minutes; performance time:
40 minutes.
A resource pack is included for children through grade 7. These can
be used in school or Sunday School programs as a lead up or follow up to the performance
itself. They contain photocopiable worksheets, teacher's notes, and activity suggestions.
Lots of fun!
