Rivet 'n' Tuft:
"The Whisperers"

Synopsis

Set in an idyllic valley where there is trust and a strong, supportive community, two friends share their dreams for the bright future that they see ahead of them until . . . the Whisperers arrive! These beings toy with the thoughts of individuals in order to cloud dreams, quench desires and hope, while stirring up fear and mistrust. The valley becomes dark, people stay indoors, and fear runs rampant. That is, until the two friends decide enough is enough!

How can you use this performance?

This story is designed to explore a number of themes. In the context of church services or school chapel services, these themes become allegories of aspects of the Christian life. In community and business settings, the same themes open up human aspirations to live responsible and fulfilled lives.
How can we change the situations in which we find ourselves? Can changing the way we think help us to see differently and make a real difference in our community?
What are your dreams? Do you feel hopeful about the future? What resources do you have to help you realise your dreams?
What can we do about the destructiveness of negative self talk, gossipping, and bullying?
Who are you going to listen to? Who are you going to serve? Is there an important role for older, wiser people outside our peer group?

The story also enables you to explore Commedia dell' arte as a theatrical form, which is especially useful for drama classes. Rivet 'n' Tuft are set characters who improvise around a skeleton plot line using circus and lazzis.

What will you experience?

In their own roguish way, Rivet and Tuft explore these serious issues with enormous energy, circus skills, audience interaction, and loads of humor. Rivet and Tuft tell their stories in a way that is suitable for all ages. From slapstick oriented presentations for junior primary school children to the more "in your face" aproaches suitable for secondary school students and adults, Rivet and Tuft know how to connect with their audiences.
