UNICEF at BU has enjoyed the success of many different events, from fundraisers to concerts, from speakers to dinners, and more!
 
MLK Jr. Peace Concert
(April 26, 2008; Metcalf Hall)
In collaboration with over 80 student groups, the campus unified to embrace a message of Peace.  The concert was headlined by well-loved band Braddigan, founder of the NGO dedicated to battling the effects of extreme poverty within the community of La Chureca, Nicaragua.  All proceeds were donated to this organization, Love Light & Melody, in aid of their work.
 
The Ripple Effect
(April 10, 2008; STO B50)
Dolfine Gumba Dowa Oliech came to campus to speak about her work in Kenya, founding a home for children who have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.  The orphanage takes care of 240 children, providing two meals a day and an education for each.  Dolfine came to BU to tell her story, and inspire us all.
 
The 2nd Annual Hunger Banquet & International Dinner
(February 21, 2008; Metcalf Hall)
This event combined awareness of diversity, culture, internationalism, community service, and unity into one evening.  The event featured powerful speakers and inspirational performances by Speak for Yourself, Kol Echad, and Jalwa, and the $600 raised will help build a primary school in tsunami-devastated Ampara, Sri Lanka.
 
World AIDS Day
(December 1, 2007; Throughout Boston University)
This cross-collegiate event raised both awareness and funds to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic.  A groundbreaking collaborative effort of over 25 student organizations, the event featured speakers, performances, free HIV testing, and a soccer tournament for the NGO KickAIDS.
 
Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF
(October 2007; Throughout Boston)
Members of UNICEF at BU continued our tradition of kids helping kids, trick-or-treating throughout Boston for small change raising $750 in support of UNICEF’s work.
 
The 1st Annual Halloween Charity Ball
(October 23, 2007; BU Central)
The charity ball to support UNICEF's Child Soldier Rehabilitation Program in Africa was an excellent success!  The event featured performances by local bands Long White Rd and B!LF, Apple Bobbing, Mummy Wrapping, and Costume Competitions, successfully raising $500 to be donated to UNICEF.
