>>> Frequently Asked Questions

The process of sorority recruitment can seem very daunting. However, we invite you to come meet our sisters and learn about the different opportunities available in our chapter. Tri Delta is a sorority made up of individuals that together strengthen the whole. Personally, I believe Tri Delta has the ideal combination of social, philanthropy, and sisterhood events. I have found the chapter that is the perfect fit for me and hope that at the end of recruitment you will find the same thing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is New Member Recruitment?
Recruitment is the process through which interested individuals are matched to a sorority by a system of mutual selection. During recruitment, Potential New Members meet members from every chapter, watch skits and videos, and decide which sorority is the right one for them. Membership recruitment consists of several rounds of events which become longer and more formal as the week progresses.

When is New Member Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment: Every January Boston University holds Formal Sorority Recruitment open to all undergraduate women. Information is available through the  Student Activities Office.

Recruitment will take place January 22nd - 27th, 2009. To register now for recruitment, visit the Panhellenic Recruitment Website and remember to register before the 22nd!

Why participate in Recruitment?
Women's fraternities offer members a wide array of opportunities and benefits including philanthropy and community service events, social activities, academic scholarships, a support system, a national network of sisters, close friendships, and memories that last a lifetime!

How much does it cost to be in a sorority?
Each sorority has different dues and financial policies. Tri Delta's fees breakdown as follows:
  New Member Fee: $55
  Initiation Fee: $160
  Badge Fee: $70
  Fraternity Dues: $45
Total amount for 1st semester: $522
  Subsequent Semester Dues: $312
It is important to note that Tri Delta Alpha Chapter has a strict no assessing policy. This means that after dues and fees are paid, no member will be required to pay additional money. Formals, t-shirts, sponsor gifts are all included in your semester dues. Tri Delta also offers a number of financing options including payment plans and scholarships.

Does being a legacy guarantee me a spot in a sorority?
Contrary to popular myths, being a legacy does not guarantee that a potential new member will be offered membership in his/her family member's organization.

Can I go abroad or take a year off and still be a member?
Yes. We encourage all of our members to participate in exchange programs to enrich their academic experiences.

What types of social activities do Tri Deltas do?
The Alpha Chapter of Delta Delta Delta offers a variety of different social avenues for its members, including events with fraternities at BU, MIT, Northeastern, and Harvard. We have crush parties, date parties, formals, and other co-ed events throughout the year. We also have dozens of sisters-only events both semesters such as our Thanksgiving potlucks, movie nights, picnics, and more.

What kind of a time commitment is Tri Delta?
While we do have a series of mandatory events and meetings that all members must attend, Tri Delta is what you want it to be. Academics are your college priority; therefore, our members are offered generous flexibility to allow them to balance their academic, personal, and social lives with their commitment to the sorority. We also pride ourselves on our members' involvement in other on-campus activities. Tri Delta's sisters volunteer in student government, community service, and BU admissions. Our members are also part of the CAS Dean's Hosts, Cheerleading, Ad Club, Tru Sole, Vibes, Step About Boston, BU Darfur, WTBU, Fight JPA, and many more.

Does Tri Delta haze?
NO! Not only is hazing against National Tri Delta rules, but it is also against Boston University's Pan Hellenic policy and National Pan Hellenic policies. Tri Delta does not participate in nor condone any type of hazing; the trust and safety of our members is of utmost importance. Anti-Hazing policies are taken very seriously by our chapter, BU Panhellenic Council, and Tri Delta Executive Office.
