VOLATILE CYCLING
A major focus of our research group is volatile cycling (H2O, CO2, Cl, S, F) at subduction zones. We are very interested in the effect of water on magma evolution.
We study the volatile contents of arc magmas using mafic melt inclusions hosted in phenocrysts like olivine (see photo at right).
We also study trace element cycling through subduction zones, and are trying to relate phenocryst compositions (e.g. clinopyroxene) to magmatic water contents.
