Publications

A collection of my fantastical short stories and poems, called The Collected Enchantments, came out this year from Mythic Delirium Books. It’s available now, in bookstores and online. Here is some of what you will find in the book, from the publisher’s description:

A wicked stepsister frets over all the ways in which she failed to receive her mother’s love. A lost woman travels through an enchanted forest looking for someone who can remind her of her name. A girl must wear down seven pairs of shoes to gain help from a witch. A fox makes a life with a human, but neither can deny their true natures. A young woman returns to her childhood home and the fantastic stories she left there. A man lets himself be taken prisoner by the Snow Queen to prove that the woman who loves him would walk barefoot through the ice to save him. Medusa cuts her hair for love.

A book I edited, Medusa’s Daughters: Magic and Monstrosity from Women Writers of the Fin-de-Siècle, came out from Lanternfish Press in 2020. It contains gothic, fantastical, and macabre poetry and short stories by women writers from the turn of the century, including Kate Chopin, Mary Coleridge, Vernon Lee, Willa Cather, E. Nesbit, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Edith Wharton, Charlotte Mew, and Virginia Wolfe.

The third book in The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club, The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl, came out in 2019. It takes our heroines back to London, where they must rescue Alice, Mary’s kitchen maid. Why would anyone kidnap Alice? You will find out in the concluding adventures of the Athena Club.

My short story and poetry collection Snow White Learns Witchcraft: Stories and Poems came out from Mythic Delirium Books in 2019. All the short stories and poems in this collection are based on fairy tales, in one form or another, although my versions may be quite different from the ones you’re used to! The collection has an introduction by Jane Yolen and gorgeous cover art by Ruth Sanderson.
