MIDAS is platform independent since it is written in Java SDK and Runtime Environment (JRE) version 6 update 5. The MIDAS interface is designed for use with a 1280 x 800 pixel screen resolution. At smaller resolutions, the user may have to scroll left to right or top to bottom.

MIDAS has different versions depending on the region considered. These versions include Generic MIDAS, MIDAS Belize and MIDAS Panama. Although the different versions have slightly different interfaces, they all include a "CDF Input" Panel, which enables the user to enter values relating to a set of fifteen governance, socio-economic, and ecological variables; a "Outcomes"panel, where inputs are used to generate outcomes; and a "Display" or "Spatial view" with an interactive map screen where the user can select a study site (country for Generic, MMA for the other versions) to visualize its outputs or outcomes, together with diferent data layers and risk maps.
