Welcome to the Boston University Student Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). We hold weekly informational meetings on Thursdays at 7pm in CAS 116. Our Society was founded in 1974 by a Californian group of engineers employed by the City of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers who would serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The concept of Networking was key to the organization. SHPE soon began establishing student chapters that would promote the principles of integrity, empowerment, achievement, diversity and continuous improvement among future professionals. The Society grew to become the largest and fastest growing Hispanic technical organization in the country, comprising 109 student chapters and 31 professional chapters in over 110 cities across the United States.
