From Coach Churchill:

The Terriers have continued to enjoy success through the Spring season. Currently the Coed team is ranked 18th in the country and the Women's team 12th. The women's team has qualified the National Championships! (see attached). The Coed team was recently victorious at the George E. Morris Intersectional and performed admirably at the NE Team Racing Championships, where they qualified for the gold fleet and went on to finish 6th overall in the very demanding 12 team championship. The Terriers had a tough go at it at the NE Dinghy Championships at the Coast Guard Academy this past weekend. After 18 races of the 26 race regatta the team was sitting in 6th place, 12 points out of 4th and a qualifying berth at nationals before the wheels came off the bus. We finished 11th in a very competitive fleet of 18. The fleet was arguably more competitive than nationals will be, as this year typically 10 of the top 20 nationally ranked teams have been from New England and 13 Neisa teams have made the rankings this year. None of our competing sailors at New England's are graduating so we'll be back stronger than ever next year. Our women's team going to nationals is even younger and full of promise too! Rah Buds!

Oops! We have been so busy sailing these past few months, we forgot to update the news page.

We did manage to send out a comprehensive newsletter at the beginning of the spring. Click here to check it out.

After a very successful spring season, the Terriers look toward the post-season. We are pleased to announce that the women's team finished 5th at New Englands. This qualifies them for Women's Nationals, to be held May 23-24 at Old Dominion. Congratulations go out to the team racing team as well for their 6th place finish at Team Racing New Englands this past weekend. The coed team looks ahead to the New England Dinghy Championship to be held May 5-6 at Coast Guard. As of April 24, the coed team is ranked 18th and the women are ranked 12th in the Sailing World College Rankings.

Entry Date: 11/18/05 - A MESSAGE FROM BRAD
The Boston University Sailing Team had some great moments last semester that I am happy to share with you. The Women's team finished 8th at the Victorian Urn Trophy to qualify for the Women's Atlantic Coast Championships at the US Coast Guard Academy where they finished 13th among the strongest teams in the country. The Women's team also performed well at the Captain's Cup and at the New England Single-Handed Championships. At the Schell Trophy, the Coed team narrowly missed qualifying for the Coed Atlantic Coast Championships and had to settle for a post season berth at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship at the College of Charleston, where the team was victorious. The team also won the Penobscot Bay Trophy and finished well at the Hatch Brown Trophy, Hobart Intersectional, and Smith Trophy. Both the Women's and Coed team remain just outside the national rankings poll with great promise for the spring semester. Our solid fall season performance will secure us excellent racing schedule for 2006 and help us in our goal towards an eighth national title. Over the winter break we will be buying new sails for our fleet 18 Flying Juniors as well as purchasing a new powerboat and upgrading our dock. We are also fundraising to defray the travel cost of our spring "out-of-district" intersectional regattas. We plan on a spring schedule that will include trips to Charleston, St. Mary's and Kings Point. The team will also be training in Texas over spring break. I hope you will consider supporting us in these efforts.

As a club, we cannot meet these goals and expenses without your support. Every gift helps our program practice, travel, compete, grow and succeed. Please consider making a donation to support us, the young men and women who commit themselves to representing the sailing team and Boston University. On behalf of the entire Boston University Sailing Team, thank you in advance for your time and continued support. Hopefully I will be able to thank you in person at an upcoming regatta. Best wishes for a very successful and happy 2006!

Sincerely,
Bradley S. Churchill
Sailing Coach

BUDS have entered into the post-season. The Women qualified at the Victorian Coffee Urn and are headed to ACCs at Coast Guard (11/12-13) and the co-ed team is in at the ACTs at Charleston the same weekend. RAH BUDS!

Old news can be found here.

Entry Date: 10/17/05
The BUDS Fall 2005 season is underway and in full swing. This seasons results can be found on the NEISA website.

Entry Date: 2/24/05
The BUDS are headed to Florida for spring break this year, and looking forward to a week on the water and in the sun; quite a change from the frigid temperatures in Boston this time of year. The river is not totally frozen this February, which means that the team could be on the water immediately after spring break, so look for us on the charles in March!

The BUDS have also finished 2nd at an intersectional in New Orleans! Check the link on the results page for more information. In other news, as you can see, the BUDS are relaunching their website. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please contact the webmasters via e-mail using sailing@bu.edu.

Thanks and stay tuned for more updates!
