Universtiy2007-11-09, ERB203, 4:00 pm
Michael Pratt
Director, Corporate Business Development
Moving novel concepts from the research lab to the commercial market place is complicated, expensive and fraught with risk. With the passage of the Bayh-Dole Act in the 1980's, US Law stipulates that Universities have the right to own inventions created through the use of federal funds. However the federal government does not provide funding to support the necessary commercialization s ervices and therefore each University is left to create and support their own technology transfer model. As such, a wide variety of models have arisen and there is a lack of consistency in these services across intuitions. This talk will focus on the general resources required to commercialize academic discoveries and then explain the various resources currently provided by Boston University for our faculty, staff and students.
