SIT UP AND
DANCE
Come sit up and dance
the circus’ in town
with trailers and tents;
men up at dawn
with colorful arms,
hands caked with chalk—
and those eyes.
Eyes full of men catching ladies
who fly through the air,
of fiery tigers
whipped through a hoop,
of carrot haired clowns
dressed in lollipop suits.
Come sit up and dance
your brother’s in town
with boys dressed in blues;
eagles in red
on starch laundered whites—
and those eyes.
