Step 3: Submitting the Referee Report
Sign on to the EES system as a referee. Choose your pending assignments section (you can see an example of the pending assigments page by clicking here. You should then see information on the manuscripts that you have open. Make your selection.
To submit your report, you should choose the option to "Submit Recommendation" . Click on this an you should see a fairly complicated menu (you can see an example by clicking here).
There are five key things that you need to do. The details differ a little depending on whether you are including material directly (option A below) or submitting attachments (options B below).
3-1: Enter your recommended decision in the drop menu marked recommendation
3-2A: Enter your referee report as text in the area marked Reviewer Blind Comments to Author
3-2B: Enter your referee report as a pdf attachment by clicking on the "upload reviewer attachments" button. Then enter the title as "Referee report on JME 00000" in the first field and attach your document in the second field. Then, click "attach this file" and "proceed with recommendation."
You will want to remove identifying information from your pdf document, using the following instructions if you do not already know how to do so.
3-3A: Enter your letter to the editor as text in the area marked Reviewer Confidential Comments to Editor
3-3B: Enter your letter to the editor as a pdf attachment by clicking on the "upload reviewer attachments" button. Then enter the title as "letter to editor on JME 0000" in the first field and attach your document in the second field. Then, click "attach this file" and "proceed with recommendation."
3-4: You can then "Proof and Print" your report, which also allows you to edit your report
If you need to stop for some reason in the process, be sure to "save and submit later" so that you do not lose your work.
3-5: The final step is to "Submit Review to Journal Office".
