Word Cloud
Below is a word cloud using the lyrics of the singles recorded while at Cadence. It was generated using a Python script that counts the word frequencies, divides the words into five groups according to frequencies, and generates html that sets the font size accordingly for the word.
Repetition of choruses or sections is not accounted for in this cloud. The next task in this project will be to add the textual repetitions as recorded on the singles. I believe this reflects the true experience of the listener as opposed to pared-down lyrics. The full set of lyrics, as recorded, will be available here eventually.
So far I have determined that there are 793 individual words used. The most commonly used word is "I"--not surprising since nearly all of the songs are first person narratives. As you can see below, the other common words are typical of any English-language poetry or prose. What seems a little more interesting to me is that of the 793 words, 318 are used only once and 130 are used twice.
This is a work in progress. I hope to add searching of the lyrics soon. Also I think the distribution method I chose (dividing the word list into 5 groups) does not the visual image that it should. For instance, "love" is used 37 times, but because of the way the frequencies are divided, it is shown below using the smallest font, as are all words that only occurred once.
