The Public Interest Project is a student-run organization formed in 1984. Our mission is to encourage students to do public interest work during law school and to increase the number of law school graduates who devote their careers to public interest. Through programs like our annual auction gala, beantown shootout, and LSTAR, along with alumni support, PIP raises money to fund two types of grants: summer grants and bar grants. Summer Grants support first- and second-year law students who work in otherwise unpaid public interest and government internships. Last year, PIP raised more than $215,000 and provided Summer Grants to 84 law students. PIP also provided Bar Grants to 6 graduating students. These support graduating third-year law students who plan to work in public interest or public service immediately after graduating from law school.
