Tech
After auditions every semester, the Technical Advisor will hold a
tech meeting for those interested in tech. You don't need any
experience to be on the tech crew; you may learn as you go at your own
pace. There are assistant positions to help you along. Also, if you
would like a position, you will get one. No audition process necessary!
At the tech meeting you will fill out a Technical Staff Application
form, noting your experience and preference. After the Technical
Advisor distributes the positions accordingly, the lists will be posted
on the website. Below is a brief rundown of all the positions
available.
Technical Director
- - To manage and oversee all other members of the tech crew.
- - To translate the director’s vision through the show's
technical aspects.
- - To be a resource and guide for all other members of the tech
crew.
- - To guarantee the safety of the cast, crew, equipment, and
location.
Producer
- - To manage the finances and spending of the show.
- - To manage the advertising and promotion of the show.
- - To be a liaison between the show and SAO.
Stage Manager
- - To act as a liaison between the director and the actors.
- - To aide the director in the organization and running of
rehearsals.
- - To manage the behind-stage space during dress rehearsals and
performances.
Lighting Designer
- - To design a comprehensive lighting scheme for the show, in
accordance with the director’s vision.
- - To coordinate the rental, delivery, and pickup of any lighting
equipment
- - To oversee the pre-show hanging of the lights and strike in a
quick and efficient manner.
- - To run the lighting board during performances.
Sound Designer
- - To design a comprehensive sound plan for the show, in
accordance with the director’s vision.
- - To coordinate the rental, delivery, and pickup of any sound
equipment
- - To oversee the pre-show setup and strike of the sound board,
speakers, microphones and any wireless microphone equipment.
- - To run the sound board during performances.
Set Designer
- - To work closely with the Director and the Master Carpenter to
design a safe, feasible set for the show.
- - To coordinate the purchase, rental, and delivery of all set
building materials.
- - To maintain involvement with the Build Crew as the set is put
together in order to assure its stability, safety, and design.
Master Carpenter
- - To lead and assure the safety of the Build Crew in constructing
the set.
- - To work with the Set Designer in planning the order in which
the set will be built.
- - To maintain the safety, stability and legality of the ser (with
particular attention to fire codes).
Build Crew
- - To work alongside the Master Carpenter to construct the set for
the show.
- - To maintain the safety of themselves, the crew around them, and
all equipment and locations.
Props Manager
- - To work with the Director and Technical Director to determine
the necessary props for the show.
- - To locate, rent, purchase, fabricate, or alter pieces, in order
to create the props needed for the show.
- - To manage the storage and security of the props before,
between, and after the shows.
Costume Designer
- - To consult with the Director and design a costume scheme for
all characters of the show.
- - To locate, rent, purchase, fabricate, or alter clothing and
cloth in order to create the costumes needed for the show.
- - To manage the storage and security of the costumes before,
between, and after the shows.
Makeup/Hair Designer
- - To be present during all dress rehearsals and shows to style
the actors makeup, or to train the actors to style their own makeup,
when appropriate.
- - To manage all rented or owned makeup equipment.
Run Crew
- - To work with the Stage Manager during dress rehearsals and
performances to change, add, and remove set pieces and props between
scenes.
- - To aid in general backstage activities during dress rehearsals
and performances.
- - To help with pre-show setup and post-show strike of all set and
lighting and sound equipment.
