New Opportunities for Graduate Research             in Antarctic Geomorphology

We are currently seeking students with broad backgrounds in earth science and engineering disciplines.  Funding is available for multiple research projects in quantitative geomorphology, including: modeling landscape evolution in cold-desert environments on Earth and Mars; experimental analyses of water and vapor flow in permafrost regions; dating tundra extinction in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica; and, decoding feedbacks among land-surface processes, environmental forcing, buried ice, and long-term climate change in Antarctica. Field work in the Dry Valleys

All students will have the opportunity to conduct extensive field research in Antarctica (helicopter-supported field camps) and, if relevant, in the Canadian Arctic.  While at BU, students can take advantage of opportunities in the Department's new geomorphology research labs (including DIAL), and participate in collaborative studies with other members of BU, the Planetary Science Group at Brown University, and the climate change group at Princeton University.
