Places to Eat Around Boston

Although I work in Boston I live south of Boston. The restaurants in which I dine are normall extant of Beantown. And these restaurants are:

Breakfast

  1. Percy's
This restaurant is in Kingston, MA. It is old and somewhat weather beaten. It is small and crowded. So much for what appears to be bad for all of that adds to its considerable charm. This is a place you must go. There is so much to eat and the menu is so large I don't even know where to start. There are the normal omelettes, except for the fact that they are huge and served with baked beans and amazing pan-fried potatoes and cornbread that makes you slobber on your shirt. By the way, you can take loaves of the cornbread home with you. You can have your eggs with bacon, or ham, or steak. You can have fish for breakfast. Yes - fish --- this is a New England custom. You can have breakfast sandwiches that make the others look like dirt. Imagine a breakfast sandwich composed of feta cheese and smoked chicken. No, don't imagine it, get it. You can get eggs and chorizo. You can get huge pancakes or waffles that are cooked perfectly. So, in closing, if you don't go here you will be sorry.
  2. The Best French Bakery - French Memories in Cohasset, Massachusetts
Now, in the name of full disclosure, I must admit that my daughter has worked in this place for awhile. I must also admit that I really like the owners. They are French and they treat their employees like family. My daughter has been over to their house twice for parties. This statement, that these people treat their employees well, can not be overemphasized. If you have a child who has worked, you know what I mean. But, this says nothing for the food, but it doesn't need to, because the food speaks for itself. The croissants are flaky and fresh and wonderful. During summer they serve a croissant with pastry filling and strawberries. This croissant, in and of itself, it enough to make you want to come back. The almond croissant is astounding. Now, for the cakes, which are sufficinetly visually stunning that it is almost a shame that you want to eat them. And the shame is that once you do eat them, they disappear so fast that you might not remember what they looked like. There are petit fours (yes, I know I misspelled that) and other pastries. They serve incredible sandwiches. Last but not least, they make any number of breads and variations of focaccia which are astounding. So, go to Cohasset and enjoy.
  3. The Best, Unknown Coffee Place Around Boston - Back Bay Beanery in Merchants Row Mall in Hanover, Massachusetts
My wife and I have gone to this place literally since the day it opened. The owner, Alex, is quite a character but he really cares about his business and his customers. First, a most importantly, the coffee, which is great. It is full bodied without being so strong that you want to keel over and die. You know, it is not like a certain coffee place which is gobbling up the coffee market throughout the USA. You can get any sort of coffee with any variation you want, Lattes, Cappucino, etc. etc. etc. Second, they make their own muffins. Muffins of many varieties that you can get just as they come out of the oven. They also have cakes and pies which are great. Third, the atmosphere is great. They have tables, Queen Anne chairs, and a couple of wonderfully comfortable couches. We go every Sunday morning, take the newspaper, get to "our couch" and sit for an hour or so and relax. Why not come down and join us?
