"Waiting for Godot" and getting looped while doing it
Many restaurants no longer take reservations. I understand why when I see the number of people who make these reservations and then leave the poor restaurant high and dry when they don't arrive on time, or for that matter, at all. These restaurants who may not have an abundance of patrons suffer mightily.
Then, there are the restaurants who have a line which perpetually snakes out the restaurant, down the street, and into some abandoned mining community. These restaurants are always crowded. In some cases from just about the moment they open until the time they close. In our community a primary example of this is a certain steakhouse with a theme from south of the equator. You can not get a reservation to save your life, even though they know that they will be jammed almost immediately. So, why would they do this?
Well, this may just be a coincidence, but they do have an extensive area for a Bar and Lounge. And, it may just be another coincidence, but you are invited to wait in that Bar for your table. And, the wait, if you arrive after six in the evening, will probably be more than an hour and many times more than two hours. So, this just may be my cynical nature, but I put two and two together and get ---- let's get more money by having our patrons stand around and buy drinks.
Of course, this is not just this establishment, but many others who force you to wait but provide you with this amenity while you are hanging around. It some cases, the wait can be much worse. How much worse??? Well, for those of you who didn't read "Waiting for Godot" ---- Godot never comes.
