The Warkentin Lab – Field Sites

PANAMA: Much of our field work on leaf-breeding treefrogs is conducted in from the Gamboa field station of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.

Some of our study ponds near Gamboa: Pipeline Pond, Ocelot Pond, and Bridge Pond
Red-eyed treefrogs lay their eggs on the vegetation surrounding and overhanging the ponds.

Clutches visible in the photograph are marked with arrows.

Agalychnis callidryas tadpoles are mid-water suspension feeders, and hang head-up in the water column. Some tadpoles of other species are visible on the bottom.
