Practice makes perfect.  So the reason you practice is to be sharp when you play competitively.  Tournaments require you to be at your best in order for you to win.  The BUBA does not bowl competitively versus other schools simply because we do not have enough experienced bowlers to compete.   Instead we have our own club tournaments that are suitable for all skill levels:

Handicap Singles Eliminator

An eliminator tournament has a population of participants that are set to bowl a specific amount of games.  After the first game, half of the bowlers with the lowest scores are out of the tournament (e.g. only the top 12 scores of 24 bowlers would qualify).  Then the field is cut in half after a second game, again, only the top half advancing.  If the third game is the final game, then those remaining players would be bowling for placing in the tournament.

The way the BUBA would hold this tournament is to take all of the bowlers scores after the first game and then add the bowlers handicap to his or her score before cutting the bottom half scores out.  This will give all of the bowlers a chance to compete for prizes.  There would be 2 to 4 places in a tournament depending on the number of eligible entrants.

Handicap Doubles Tournament

A doubles tournament would pair bowlers together at random in this three game competition.  Each of the bowlers would bowl their games and the teams total score plus their handicaps per game would be added together.   There would be 2 to 4 places in the tournament depending on the number of eligible entrants.  This tournament could also be done as an eliminator.
