Tiputini Gnamptogenys
| Gnamptogenys cf. sulcata | (see sulcata below) | |
| Gnamptogenys concinna | Very large species with head width greater than 2.0mm. Sculpture finely striate. | |
| Gnamptogenys haenschei | A large, reddish brown species with head width greater than 1.2mm. Mandibles distinctly striate, eyes very small, scapes just barely reach but do not distinctly surpass margin of vertex. | |
| Gnamptogenys horni |
|
Mandibles smooth and shiny, antennal scapes short, anteroventral subpetiolarprocess square cut. Pronotal and propodeal sutures absent dorsally. Anterior margin of anterior apron of clypeus straight or shallowly concave, terminating laterally in sharply rectangular corners. Petiolar node longitudinally costulate; when viewed from the side it appears low and rectangular. Anterior face of node with transverse costulae. Declivitous face of propodeum with costulae that continue from dorsal face and immediately converge posteriorly. Meso-metapleural suture not well-impressed. |
| Gnamptogenys kempfi | Mandibles are dorsally smooth and shining. Sculpture on dorsal mesosoma is mostly transverse, with no apparent pronotal suture or propodeal suture. | |
| Gnamptogenys minuta | AT4 strongly vaulted and much inflated; sculpture on AT4 uniformly granular and smooth; head width less than 1.0mm. Mandibles distinctly striate. Pronotal and propodeal suture both absent. | |
| Gnamptogenys mediatrix | Mandibles elongate and distinctly striate dorsally. Short propodeal teeth present. Scapes are striate and distinctly surpass margin of vertex. | |
| Gnamptogenys mina |
|
Mandibles triangular, smooth and shiny. Eyes small. Antennal scapes short, not surpassing margin of vertex. Pronotal suture present. Propodeal suture absent. Anteroventral subpetiolar process square cut. Petiole posteriorly inclined with the anterior face and dorsal face joining through a small convexity, whereas the dorsal face and posterior face join at a sharper angle. The posterior face is perpendicular, not concave. Surface sculpture is finely striate and beaded. Striations on petiole are transverse |
| Gnamptogenys moelleri | ||
| Gnamptogenys pleurodon |
|
Mandibles triangular and dorsally striate. Scapes very long, easily surpassing margin of vertex. Pronotal suture present, propodeal suture absent. Anteroventral subpetiolar process not square cut, instead a regularly tapering anterior tooth. |

| Gnamptogenys regularis |
|
Mandibles smooth and shiny, antennal scapes short, anteroventral subpetiolarprocess square cut. Pronotal and propodeal sutures absent dorsally. Anterior margin of anterior apron of clypeus straight or shallowly concave, terminating laterally in sharply rectangular corners. Petiolar node longitudinally costulate; when viewed from the side it appears low and rectangular. Anterior face of node without transverse costulae. Declivitous face of propodeum with longitudinal parallel costulae. Meso-metapleural suture well-impressed.
|
| Gnamptogenys simulans | AT4 strongly vaulted and much inflated; AT4 with distinct, evenly spaced foveae; head width greater than 1.0mm. Head width appears greater than head length (excluding mandibles). | |
| Gnamptogenys sulcata |
|
Promesonotal suture absent; scapes surpass margin of vertex when laid back; mandibles smoothly curving such that basal and apical margins form a continuous convexity; head in back of antennal insertions black or nearly so; mandibles straw yellow, contrasting sharply with black of cranium; mesosoma, node and gaster varying from black to yellowish-red; costulae of posterior face of propodeum longitudinal; eyes relatively large and elongate. My collection includes two distinct groups. One group (shown left) is larger with the mesosoma the same dark color as the head. This group was collected in the canopy. The second group is slightly smaller, with the mesosoma varying frpm a yellow/orange color to brown (sometimes on the same specimen). Head is still black. All of these specimens were collected from a pitfall trap. |
| Gnamptogenys striatula |
|
Pronotum separated from remainder of mesosoma by a very distinct suture, completely breaking the sculpture; anteroventral process of petiole square-cut; petiolar node erect, in side view the posterodorsal angle not very much more sharply rounded than anterodorsal angle, and not overhanging posterior face. Mandibles triangular and striate. Antennal scapes distinctly surpassing margin of vertex. Lattke synonymized curtula and wheeleri under striatula. Longino observed distinct differences between the two and kept them separate. In my collection, I have put all specimens, whether or not the dorsal face of propodeum is somewhat differentiated from the mesonotum or not, under striatula. In addition, all of my specimens appear to have the anteroventral process of the petiole square-cut (as in image to left). |
| Gnamptogenys KTRW001 |
|
Mandibles triangular and distinctly striate. Antennal scapes very long, clearly surpassing the margin of the vertex by a large margin. Anteroventral subpetiolar process not square cut, posterior edge somewhat rounded. Pronotal costulae semi-circular, propodeal costulae longitudinal, metanotal costulae transverse (see below) I thought at first that this was bisulca, but now believe that what I thought were the pronotal and propodeal sutures, are simply the sculpturing. I believe it is in the striatula group. |
