1. Download and install Hot Potatoes on your personal computer (links at right).
HP project suggestions
- See the HP lesson authoring guidelines from last semester.
- If you want to use audio or video files that are streamed on a Web page, I can show you next week options for capturing a downloadable version or other ways to embed media streamed from another location.
- If you use HP on Windows, you get the added feature of being able to upload your lesson files for free to HotPotatoes.net.
- Notes from the Authoring lecture are available as a PPS.
2. Dreamweaver
I understand that Dreamweaver MX is licenced by BU and available for free from the Software Distribution site. I still have to check on this. In the meantime, you can download and use the 30-day fully functioning trail version from Adobe.
You should take advantage of the free web hosting you get from BU at people.bu.edu. Sign up for a free account and start uploading to your people space the next day. Your URL would be http://people.bu.edu/yourBUlogin.
Configure Dreamweaver to upload to your BU people space:
In the Site menu, choose Manage Sites...
New > Site

In Category > Local Info, choose the Advanced tab. Name your site, locate the local files (your flash drive?). The HTTP address wil be http://people.bu.edu/yourBUlogin .

In Category > Remote Info , set up FTP access. The FTP host is below. The login is your BU login name.
