PERSONAL

·          This is a picture with Sabahat, my dearest bestest friend, who also happens to be my wife. The world’s greatest mom and dad are mine, but unfortunately I have to share them with my 3 siblings (from left to right – Shezy, Reema and Maha), and our 5 muts. My favorite dog: looking innocent, impish and nerdy.

·          South Asian Classical Music has been a part of my everyday life since 1991. I play the Sitar and identify myself with the school of Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Rais Khan. My training began under Ustad Alam Khan, and invaluable knowledge and understanding of music was also gained from Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and Ustad Nazir Ahmed, and from a workshop conducted by Ustad Shujaat Khan. On 07/23/07, I formally – and very proudly – became a disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, the world’s leading contemporary sitarist. I have had numerous performances over the years – I have performed in concerts arranged by All Pakistan Music Conference, Lahore Arts Forum, Chitrkar, Sampurna and also the Rochester India Community Centre. This picture is from an article in DAWN about my 2003 Karachi performance.

Logical Positivism had a big hand in driving me towards the social sciences and away from philosophy (particularly, metaphysics). Here is an extremely short intro to Logical Positivism. For something elaborate, A. J. Ayer’s ‘Language, Truth and Logic’ is highly recommended.
