About this Website

This Website Nears Completion

This website is almost finished. However, even when it is finished, I will continue to occasionally update the website.

Background Information

This website is the successor of Works of a chauj1 and the replacement for the old Jimmy C. Chau webpage. While I liked my Works of a chauj1 page— mainly because of all of the server side scripts that I wrote with PHP— I had to give it up because the server stopped hosting my pages. So I started working on the previous Jimmy C. Chau webpage in the Fall 2005 semester. Since the people.bu.edu webserver would not support server side scripting and since my classwork gave me little time to develop a website, the previous Jimmy C. Chau webpage was simply an "About Me" page; it was almost identical to the new "About Me" page except that the gray background was white and there was no navigation menu.

Seeing how hideous my webpage was, I decided to redesign the webpage. This website is an edited, reformatted, elaborated, and enhanced version of the older one. Like all of the other webpages that I have designed, this website will be completely hand-crafted, hand-coded, and standards-compliant! Enjoy!

If You Notice any Problems

I'm trying to keep this website as perfect as possible. If you notice any problems with it, please contact me. Suggestions for solving these problems are also welcome.

I am currently working to verify or remedy the following problems or implement the following improvements:

• IE6 may not interpret "position: fixed;" in formatting.css properly. I do not use IE, so if someone can verify for me that this problem exists, I'd appreciate that.
• If the webpage viewing area's height is not enough, the bottom parts of the navigation menu may not be visible. If you experience that problem with the navigation menu, let me know and I will quickly remedy that by removing the "position: fixed;". Meanwhile, I will try to find another solution. (Fixed)
• The "My Fall 2006 Schedule" image cannot be viewed in a text-only browser. It is probably not accessible to visually impaired people either. I am working to replace that image with a table instead. (Fixed)
• There are some colors used here that are not "web-safe." If you notice a problem with these colors or if you can suggest a better color scheme, please let me know.
• If the width of the viewing area is too short, a horizontal scroll-bar appears which can move the content of the page under the navigation menu which will obscure some content. No fix found yet though moving the navigation menu to the right of the page may help.
• There can be more markup with tags such as abbr, acronym, code, dfn, kdb, samp, and var.
