All you need to know about Auditions:
Usually, we hold auditions at the beginning of every semester, fall and spring. Check our website for details. Signup sheets will be in the GSU a week or so prior to audition week. Even if you aren’t able to sign up for a specific time, you can still show up to audition and we will fit you in at the earliest available time slot. Auditions are held in CFA (College of Fine Arts) and are no longer than 10 minutes (they’re really not as scary as you might think!).
Auditioning is a pretty simple process. We’ll have you sing a few scales to get a sense of your vocal range and then have you do some pitch-matching exercises. For the last part of the audition, you’ll sing a prepared solo a cappella – without accompaniment. This can be anything from pop to jazz to musical theater. Choose a song that showcases the best of your vocal abilities. After auditions are over, we will post a list on our website of the people who we’d like to hear again for callbacks.
We encourage all who are interested to consider auditioning. We don’t have a specific limit on how many people we can accept, nor do we consider voice part or class year as a major factor in our decision. So please, come and audition for us! We’d love to hear you.
If you have any questions about the audition process, please do not hesitate to contact our Musical Director, Katie Weissman, or our President, John Condakes. They would be happy to provide you with any information you may need!
