Graduate Student Health Services Fees at Other Schools
This information is courtesy of Tufts University's Graduate Student Council (GSC)
<gsc@emerald.tufts.edu>
and was transmitted to us on February 1, 1999.
This information describes what fees apply to the use of Student Health
Services (i.e., a school's medical clinic) at selected other schools.
Boston College
Grad students who have the BC insurance end up paying $10 per
visit after submitting their claims (they pay $50 up front, and get
reimbursed $40 when the claim goes through). Grad students with a
different insurance plan may pay $50 per visit or $141 for unlimited care
for one semester. (617-552-8000)
Brown
Grad students must pay a mandatory health fee of $218 per SEMESTER. The
may be exempted only if they are traveling or studying outside of the area
(i.e.: living far away, working on a dissertation etc). The Brown
insurance is separate, costs $726 per year, and may be replaced with an
outside insurance if the student so chooses. All Brown students must be
insured.
Cornell
Every student pays $10 co-pay when they use the health service. This
covers all costs of seeing doctors, etc. If there are extra charges (say
for x-rays), the bill goes to the student's insurance plan, which can be
from Cornell or from some outside insurance.
Dartmouth
There is no health fee; costs for using the health service are covered in
tuition. A grad student whose tuition is covered by their department may
use the health service for free. Nearly all services at the health
service are free to full-time students. Students must have either
Dartmouth insurance or an adequate replacement.
Johns Hopkins
Grad students pay to use the health center whether or not they
have JH insurance, but this fee is PART OF TUITION, and is therefore
covered for students who have a tuition grant. (410-516-8079)
Princeton
Grad students must carry the Princeton insurance, but this is
COVERED IN TUITION. This allows them to use the Health Service at no
extra cost. Students whose tuition is covered by their departments get
free health insurance/health service access. (Source: Michele, Insurance
Office, 609-258-3138.)
Tufts University
Students must pay a MANDATORY $431 Health Service Fee in addition to
purchase of a health insurance policy. This fee is NON-WAIVABLE unless
a student is taking 1 or less classes or are at the "thesis only" stage
of their degree AND they do not purchase the university-offered
insurance plan. Additionally, the student must pay this fee in one
lump sum at the beginning of the Fall Semester.
Vanderbilt
Health Insurance Program is Chickering. However, there is no charge to
visit Student Health Services, it is covered in tuition. Additionally,
students are on a $5 copay for generic drugs, and a $10 co-pay for "brand
name" prescriptions. Main Line: 615-322-7311 Health Clinic: 615-322-2427
