Scytonema endolithicum Ercegovic, a filamentous, heterocystous,
N - fixing cyanobacterium penetrats coastal limestone in the
supratidal, wave spray zone near Marseille, France. The organism
is extracted from the rock using dilute HCl, and mounted on microscope
slide. Filaments are about 10 micrometers wide.
