Few things about me
I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Coordinated  Science Laboratory (CSL) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Prior to that I was a PhD student and a Research Assistant at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University where I was also a member of the Information Systems and Sciences Lab (ISS) and the Center for Information and Systems Engineering (CISE). I received my B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Alexandria University in May 2000. I also received my M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University in 2003.

I am passionate about:

Tennis even though I suck. Seafood particularly crabs, shrimp, sword fish, salmon, sushi, mussels, clams, oysters...mmm did I forget anything?? Oops how could I forget scallops. Lute and Violin, they shake me from inside. Roger Federer: this swiss guy is a tennis musician. Languages with their amazing beautiful stylish expressions and sounds. The unseen beauty of Wireless Communications. Genuine people. Phrasal verbs. A home made soup, Molokheya. Seeing people from countries with stupid political conflicts loving each other and getting along in academia.

I will always remember:

Carrying Joe my Nephew for the first time when he was 4 months old. My Bostonian invaluable brothers: Hany, Karim, Mina and Ray. Mina Guirguis’ support. My parents love. The closest person to my soul: my sister Joline. God’s love even when I fail to see it. Fady Barsoum’s soothing phone calls. My lovely lab-mates and buddies. The wonderful people I have known back home. Friday nights gatherings for the weekly midnight prayer at Saint-George’s church in Alexandria.  My awesome childhood friends that got dispersed all over the world: Ramez, Joseph, Nader, Hany Aziz, Amgad Momtaz, Magued and the labibs. Contemplations at 23 Saint Luke’s Rd. The best class I had at BU: SC505. My favorite teacher in 4th grade: Madame Dianna. The hammerhead shark that passed next to me in Ras Muhammad reserve at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Dominique Avon who really taught me french. Physics classes by Yves Belenko who seemed to me like Max Planck. The deep engineering insights of Ahmed Sultan. The forgiving non judging christian environment where I was brought up. Dad’s wisdom. Mum’s tears. That night in the Baramos Monastery. Emad Fakhry’s heavenly voice. Amgad’s hilarious emails. Evening Lute classes in the conservatory. Moheb eating Wassabi thinking it was Avocado. Our hand-made wireless robot’s first motion. My grandmother who moved to heaven. My first dungeness crab. The worst and most horrible teacher I ever had in my life: M. Jeannine (5th grade).

Origins:

I was born and grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, where Pharaonic knowledge, Roman pageantry, Greek mythology, Ptolemaic art, Coptic doctrine together with Arabic influence were all mixed in the warmth, magic and romance of that Mediterranean melting pot!
