BULLETPROOF FUNK is Boston University's one-of-a-kind dance group dedicated to street dance and freestyle dance, with a focus on b-boying (breakdancing), popping, and waacking (punking). Although we are a relatively new group (formed in 2007), we have already established our name within the greater Boston area by performing at many different events and venues and by testing our skills against other dancers at various competitions throughout the world, often winning or placing high. Some artists we have opened for are Boston hip-hop icons Mr. Lif and Akrobatik, independent hip-hop group Blue Scholars, and youtube sensation Paul Dateh (the "hip hop violinist"), among many others. We hope that we will be able to perform for you and spread our passion for street dance around the world as we continue on our journey to build our reputation and increase our skill level!

Our performances typically incorporate many different dance styles, although we will sometimes do showcases featuring only one style. We strive to make our choreography as entertaining and engaging as possible, while still leaving room for creativity. All of our solo sections are usually freestyled on the spot. You can watch past performances on our vimeo page. Aside from performing, we also host open practice sessions at Boston University facilities. These practices, with the exception of those at the exclusive BU gym, are completely open to the public regardless of skill level. We encourage beginners to come and learn and will always help those who ask.

Our practice session schedule can be found on our twitter page and on our facebook group page. We try to keep these as up-to-date as possible, and will sometimes send messages to members of our group when it is important. We also maintain a group blog where members will write about local events, dance-related news, and anything else related to the group.

We have many upcoming events this semester! Come check us out at one of our next performances:

Our group was originally started so that we would be able to schedule practice spots using university facilities. Finding other dancers is always hard, but finding good practice spots is harder. Initially, we never planned on doing performances but as time went on and more people joined us, our small group of friends turned into a family and we began to promote our group more and more. This explains why we have a "open practice, invite-only performance" policy. Learning dance requires a lot of dedication and hard work, but is always very rewarding in the end.
