Imaging odor-evoked calcium signals in vivo Olfactory receptor input to olfactory bulb glomeruli imaged in a live mouse with calcium-sensitive dyes. The top left image shows glomeruli labelled with calcium-sensitive dye and imaged with wide-field optics. The image on the top right shows a few glomeruli labelled in the same way but imaged with two-photon confocal microscopy. Both images were taken in vivo, through the dorsal skull. The bottom images show pseudocolor maps of fluorescence changes evoked by two different odorants, imaged from the region shown in upper left. 2-hexanone and benzaldehyde evoke activity in different combinations of glomeruli. |
