Each student must write a weekly response (about a page) to the readings during the course of the semester. You may respond to a point raised in the reading guide or go off in a direction of your own. In either case, I am looking for an informal but thoughtful, coherent, precise discussion of the text in its appropriate historical context.
Responses should be posted to the Course Info site by 10 PM on the Sunday before class.
I will be looking at the overall quality and thoughtfulness of your papers as well as your understanding of the material in the context of themes covered in class. Grading will be a simple, check, check plus, check minus.
