Past Projects and Artists

When NEFA projects, programs, and initiatives have run their full cycle, they still serve NEFA's work and the arts field in many ways. Our philosophy is to treat all programs and projects as laboratories from which participants can use experiences to enhance their own work in the arts, and that provide end products and case studies that inform arts programming locally, regionally and nationally.

Past Project Spotlight

Since its launch in 1997, the Favorite Poem Project has been dedicated to celebrating, documenting and promoting poetry's role in Americans' lives. NEFA was the project's primary administrative partner until October 1999.

During the one-year open call for submissions, 18,000 Americans wrote to the project volunteering to share their favorite poems. From those thousands of letters and emails, the Project partners culled several enduring collections, including a video archive, several poetry anthologies, an award-winning website, and a database of favorite poems.
