Boston University Academic Policy Committee. September, 2002 — present.

Boston University Biology Department Graduate Admissions Committee. 1999 — 2001.

Search committee member on five search committees at Boston University. I served on three search committees for the Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution program at Boston University which resulted in three hires. I also served on a search committee for the BU Marine Program (BUMP) that resulted in two hires, and I served on one search committee in the Department of Geography that resulted in one hire.

Chairman's ad hoc BUMP advisory committee. I served on the chairman's ad hoc advisory committee for the Boston University Marine Program (BUMP) at Wood's Hole. The aim of the committee was to develop ways to enhance the marine program and further its integration with the Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution program at the BU Boston Campus.

EBE-IGERT Committee. Participated in the conception, development, and writing of a proposal to fund a program for integrated graduate education and research training (IGERT) in biodiversity assessment, analysis, and conservation across the range of biological scales. Our pre-proposal to the National Science Foundation IGERT program received high marks and we were invited to submit a full proposal. The full proposal was submitted to the NSF-IGERT review panel on February 19, 2001.

Public Outreach and Education

PBS Evolution Project. My research was featured in the PBS Evolution series. I served as an advisor and reviewer of web-based educational materials (see http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/), and I participated in the production of educational videos and materials for high-school students and college freshmen.

Darwin Days speaker (02/02). I participated in the Darwin Days celebration hosted by Salem State College, a public outreach and science education project then in its 23rd year.
