Awareness Party/Meet-and-Greet Dinner
November 3, 2007
Feona, an ambassador from the Emancipation Network, with Liz (our fearless President), modeling Made by Survivors
products, which are sold through the non-profit group The Emancipation Network (TEN).
Feona and Xixi displaying a purple scarf made by survivors from India. There is hand-stitched gold embroidery
along the sides.
More hand-made products from the Awareness Party. These are some beautiful handmade journals (all with 100%
recyclable paper), recycled rice-bag wallets, stationary sets, gift cards, satin bags, and photo albums. Everything
is made by the shelters the Emancipation Network partners up with in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The shelters not
only serve as a refuge for former trafficking victims and girls at risk of being trafficked, but they teach empowerment
and employable skills to the women they rescue.
Free the Slaves t-shirts (another non-profit), beautiful bags, and wallets.
Handmade bags from Nepal. If you are interested in anything you see here, email us (busaht@gmail.com) and we can
get in touch with the Emancipation Network to see if they have what you want. Not everything is listed on their website, as
they get a continual influx of unique and everchanging products.
Some of the more high-end gifts. 100% silk bags, pashminas, table cloths, etc. Perfect as a birthday or holiday gift
(and plus almost all of the money you spend on buying these items will go directly to the shelters who need them, i.e.
minimal overhead fees). Did you know that many shops sell their products for 5x the amount that they buy them at?? The Emancipation Network
keeps their buying-selling rate low, help support them! Contribute to keeping these shelters going! Not only are the products affordable, but they
are durable, well-made, and each one is slightly different than the other because it's not mass produced!
Jewelry! Hey, doesn't your mom want some?
(clockwise from left): Stationary cards from Nepal, wallets made from recycled rice bags, handmade journals WITH handmade blank sheets inside,
gift bags, bookmarks, and more stationary.
Home goods! Pillow cases from India, bedspreads, etc.
Lena and Xixi with their Made by Survivors purchases. Lena bought a salmon laptop bag/briefcase made in Nepal from
recycled Vietnamese rice bags. Xixi bought screenprinted stationary cards made in India of a rug shop scene.
Oh HEY dinner guests. Sorry, this photo is a bit blurry!
CHOW TIME!!!
Attendees at the dinner party after the entree and before dessert. Mmmm...
What's up?: Bread, breaded Italian chicken, stuffed vegetarian pasta shells with 3 cheeses, salad. Xixi ate
3 pieces of chicken on her own.... they were delicious.
