Hands on Archaeology!
*UNDER CONSTRUCTION*
The Gabel Museum
Last year the Boston University Archaeology Department dedicated the Gabel Museum, located in Room 253 of the Stone Science Building (also known as CAS). Volunteers are needed to help organize the museum and research the many fascinating artifacts that have been waiting unstudied. Volunteer open hours are Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-2pm. The museum has an immense variety of artifacts from a large range of cultures throughout the world. In short, something for everyone, so there's sure to be something of interest to you. Professor Runnels is the museum director, and you can contact him at runnels@bu.edu or stop by his office (CAS room 339). Professor Runnels' wife Priscilla Murray is the museum's curator, and she will be happy to help students find a project to work on if you contact her at pmurrary@bu.edu. Many of the projects can also be worked on at home! Just send an email to these contacts or to buarch@bu.edu if you have more questions.
The Archaeology Channel(www.archaeologychannel.org)
A product of the Archaeological Legacy Institute, the Archaeology Channel is aimed at bringing archaeology to a wider audience. The website offers several positions for volunteers with duties that can be performed through the internet, so no matter where you are located you can participate. In turn for your services, the website will give your name a little publicity and even design business cards for you. Check out your options in both the Volunteer Program and the Underwriting Program.
