Since 1993, students have been learning about animals, their habitats, and science through the RoadKill site. Students record sightings of roadkill and upload their recordings. The result is an interesting students-as-scientists database. Activities are also included to help teachers lead students through the analysis of the roadkill data. Take a look.

Try the "Minuet Mixer"with it's Garage Band-like tools or "Orchestration Station" to learn how the pieces of music sound with different instruments. A great and worthwhile tool.

For certain kids the service made a big difference in their ability to keep up with their courseload. Given that many kids have iPods or other mp3 devices, LibriVox may be great help. LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and then share the recordings as audio files on the web. Students and teachers can download the growing list of titles for free.

You can also save the document to your hard drive as a Word document. Authors can also allow other writely users to edit the document. I see this as potentially a great tool for the classroom. Students can move documents back and forth from home, work on collaborative projects, and allow teacher proofs and edits without printing. Keep an eye on these new web based tools. (Who needs Office?)

It provides audio, visual, and interactive hands on experience for each step of the dissection process. Additional information, links, and resouce pages are available on the site to allow an idividual user to learn at thier own pace, while at the same time, provides a structured format in which a teacher could incorporate an entire classroom into the laboraory experience. Although some of the pictures and videos are small, I would still highly recommend this site for use in a high school science class.

Tux, of Math Command is an open-source D&P application from the developers of TuxPaint. The game is still in the Alpha phase and not yet available for OSX. (I'm using the OS 9 version). It's a fairly good, Asteroids-like game that gives students many opportunities to practice math facts. I'm really excited about the continued development of open-source applications for education. In development is an application called TuxWriter.

You might remember it from your elementary school years. I am always surprised at how much satisfaction students get from making the turtle do their bidding. LogoPark is the first online Logo applet that I've seen.
