DevelopmentText Box: Course Description:
The planting and birthing of new congregations requires careful planning, innovative leadership, organizational savvy, a strong spiritual base, and endless creativity.  This course is a study in the theology and practice of starting new congregations and covers such topics as contextual 
worship, organizational development, finance and facilities, exegeting a community, development of multi-congregational 
churches, effective use of boards and committees, 
and other practices of faithful and socially 
embodied witness to God’s reign. Coursework 
includes a specific congregational development 
research project.

Method:
This course will combine discussion of key 
readings, presentation of student research, and 
site visits to new congregations in the greater 
Boston area.
