In February of 2005, my graduate and undergraduate Sound Design students suggested we create our own Sound Playback Event, giving us a chance to focus on Sound as an art form. After batting a few ideas about, we decided that each of us would pick a contraction, and create a 3-5 minute piece inspired by that word. My choice was shouldn't. The event was held in the black box space at the Boston University Theatre in March 2005.

The piano piece at the beginning is actually a MIDI rendition of the word shouldn't rendered in the WWWTools part of the program Key Kit. The other elements include clips from Richard Nixon’s resignation speech, kids giggling in church, and some other musical bits.
