About Us

Welcome to the Boston University Ski Team’s website! We're a club team that competes against ten other club and varsity teams from around New England in the United States Collegiate Snowsports Association (USCSA) Thompson Division. Although we are not a varsity team, our team is fairly competitive and has a number of strong skiers. Racers of varying abilities ski for the team. Some have been racing for up to 15 years, while many have never skied gates before in their life. Those who haven’t raced before catch on fairly quickly. We’ve had a number of people on the team who joined with limited racing experience and they’ve had a great time!

The team works out weekdays at 5:30 p.m. throughout the fall at Nickerson Field. Look for us on the grassy area next to the tennis courts. We encourage members to attend the pre-season practices, although they are not mandatory.

During the final week of winter break, the team holds a training camp at Mount Sainte-Anne in Beaupre, Quebec. The camp is a great way for new members to meet returning veterans and get coaching from some of Canada’s top skiers.

The team competes in six weekend-long USCSA events held throughout January and February. Saturdays are usually Slalom events, while Sunday’s are reserved for GS. The past few years, both our men’s and women’s teams have performed well enough to qualify for USCSA Regionals, which are held annually at Waterville Valley, NH at the end of February.

Ten men and ten women race in each event. The top five men and women race every weekend, while the remaining five spots are filled on a rotating basis. The team also provides gate-keepers each race. Every team member will race for at least two weekends, usually more. Throughout the season, the team practices weeknights at Nashoba Valley in Westford, MA.

During the fall the team goes hiking a number of times in New Hampshire and, like all college clubs, holds a number of social events throughout the year. The team is a great social opportunity, especially at a large school like BU.

Thanks for visiting our site, and feel free to email us your questions and comments about the team or this website to alpine@bu.edu. We hope to see you on the slopes.
