Service events & opportunities

Alpha Epsilon Delta also encourages its members to get as much firsthand experience with health care as possible.  We are committed to helping members find opportunities to shadow physicians in hospital settings, allowing them to get a clearer view about their potential futures.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

At AED we view service as an intrinsic part of our organization.  We are committed to providing the BU community with opportunities for pre-health development in addition to organizing and implementing various community service events throughout every semester.  In the past we have taken part in the Charles River Cleanup, Halloweentown, and the Boston Marathon.  In the future we are hoping to organize community service events that directly involve issues of public health.  Speaking to elementary school students about preventing infection and organizing events within BU's health week are some examples of future undertakings.  Entering any health related profession ensures that service to others becomes an important part of your career.  At AED we are proud to emphasize the development of such service within our organization.

SHADOWING

AED members have successfully shadowed neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, and emergency physicians throughout the school year and during summer break.  It should be noted that while shadowing does not give academic credit, it often opens doors to research opportunities, leadership opportunities, and letters of recommendations.

To start shadowing, we suggest that you search the following web sites for the residency director of your specialty of choice:
